Manitowoc rallies after Q2 beats
expectations

CHICAGO, July 12 (Reuters) - Shares of Manitowoc Co. Inc.
(NYSE:MTW - news) rallied 7 percent Monday after the
company, which makes construction cranes, food service
equipment and ships, posted better-than-expected second quarter
earnings.

In morning trade on the New York Stock Exchange, Manitowoc shares gained 2-13/16 to 42-7/8, just off a new 52-week high of 43. The shares trade on the New York Stock Exchange.

Earlier, the Manitowoc, Wis. company reported second quarter earnings of $21 million or $0.80 a share, up 36 percent from $15.4 million or $0.59 a share in the second quarter of 1998.

According to First Call, analysts expected the company to earn $0.76 a share in the period.

Net sales increased 20 percent to $226.3 million in the second quarter from $188.8 million...
