I visited the San Diego Plant last week here is some insight I gained by the experience.

The San Diego plant is mostly used for final assembly and testing of
their current products and the design of new products.

Here are a couple things
1) Moral is very high
2) Everyone I saw was very busy
3) They closed off the gigamux production to visitors I was told.
But they just hired 3 new people to test the gigamuxes. That makes it a total of 6 engineers working in that division.
4) A couple of UCSD engineer prof work in the san diego plant
5) no engineers have been lost due to the competition even though a
company tried to grab a couple of gigamux engineers a couple months ago.
6) Synergy between aquired companies at the plant is very high. But
communication between plants(AJ,San Diego, so on) is still poor.
7) They are actively seeking out new engineers to work there
