DALLAS--Seeking to build global brand awareness in an increasingly competitive industry, Dell Computer will pour an estimated $70 million into a worldwide advertising campaign that will start later this year.

Dell's global branding campaign will include television and print and possibly other media, said T.R. Reid, spokesman for the Round Rock, Texas-based computer manufacturer.

He declined to specify a start date for the ad push or media spending, but did say the campaign would be "in the tens of millions of dollars." Trade journal Advertising Age, reported an estimated budget of $70 million when Dell hired J. Walter Thompson USA's Chicago office as agency of record for global branding last November.
