Lucent Technologies Receives Q1 Award From Ford Business Wire - May 06, 1998 12:45 DETROIT--(BUSINESS WIRE)--May 6, 1998--The Ford Motor Company has awarded Lucent Technologies its highest recognition for supplier quality -- the prestigious Q1 Award. The award requires candidates to meet stringent ISO 9000 based standards for quality and criteria similar to Malcolm Baldrige National Quality Award standards for customer service. Lucent's Q1 certification required proof of commitment to continuous improvement, listening to the voice of the customer, taking a team approach and creating a comprehensive business plan. "It's a mark of excellence and means we're a preferred supplier," says Kelley Jensen, Lucent's global account manager for Ford. "Ford is an automotive leader. Companies pay attention to the technology it uses." Multiple Ford divisions involved with Lucent participated in the evaluation. A failing grade from any unit causes the supplier to fail. "Lucent's new Q1 status is recognition that the company is meeting and exceeding Ford's high supplier quality standards," Jensen said.
