Obviously (I hope!) Webbie was engaging in hyperbole. Of course the
man in the remote third world village is not likely to be web surfing
any time soon. I don't think you have to go to that extreme to find
large pools of untapped users. I'd bet that the vast majority of the
people who live in my apartment complex (Boston suburbs) have yet to
make their first online purchase. The belief of those of us that
are bullish long term on web stocks like SEEK is that the day when
web use (in the first world at least) becomes almost as common as
watching TV or using the phone is not THAT far off. I have to
remind myself that it was only five years ago that someone showed
me Mosaic for the first time. Is that day 5 years (10, 20???) off.
I don't know. I just think it would be a big mistake to underestimate it.

Also, the statement that Coke will be considered an 'internet' stock
is probably an exxageration as well. It would be like thinking of
1-800 Flowers as a telecom stock because they do most of their
business over an 800 number. I think it is safe to say that in
the near future Coke's bottom line will be significantly affected
by how it manages its relationships with suppliers and customers
over the web. Coke will benefit from the internet, that just doesn't
make it an 'internet' stock in the most common sense.
