let,

Welcome!! Any civilized debate is mighty welcome! Anything
that stimulates the old cortex muscles is a good thing.

I'll try to answer some of your questions later, gotta
do some work at my day job at the moment...

But, I will say this. The comparison to CUBE seems a little
strained because of the '$70 down to $18' and back to $24.
This seems a little harsher than the COMS drop. Shorts here
months ago were banking on those numbers, but they were
WRONG! :)

As for bickering and bashing of COMS, for me it's just
entertainment. Unfortunately, for others, it's probably
scared them off from being a very valuable source of
input. But I'm sure they'll all be back by end of the
year when COMS hits $50 (***54% profit****).

I'm thinking of developing a FAQ for newcomers.
Any volunteers?

Later,
joe

>>I don't understand this v.90 language on the modems tho..could someone e-mail me
about this (or post it here) because I have a USRobotics Sportster Modem (33.6k) that I
would like to upgrade to 56k, but my ISP only handles the K56 Flex for the 56k
connection. Will the v.90 work? <<

The first thing that has to happen, is your ISP has to upgrade
to v.90.

Next, you can upgrade to 56k v.90 by downloading
software or firmware from 3Com. I'm not sure of the exact
mechanics, just go to the 3Com web site - they'll lead you
through it.

I don't use a modem connection myself (I use the ol'
T1 line from work - home modem's are too painful for me)

A lot of the previous posts refer to technical details of
x2 modems. Look for the
ones by Dick Smith in this thread and the 'ghost' thread.
I think he's the leading hardware guru for this stuff :>
