Great post and comparison Rhetoric! I have not checked out the add-on features for the iMac, but I wonder how much more you could add on for $200? In other words, which $1499 machine would be better?

Rhet, you read my mind about iMac vs AIO. And very nice speculation about how the iMac could see a price cut before Christmas. I'm wondering if education customers will feel a bit put out since they are paying a few hundred dollars more, but perhaps the floppy and SCSI are worth it.

One wonders if the price of components will come down further this year due to Asian needs for cash, allowing Apple to keep prices low yet margins reasonable.

Anyone have a guess as to how much the price of the 233 G3 will come down by August-December? That chip will be almost a year old by that point and thus likely contributing to the low iMac price.

Some of the hardware prices from the ads in the back of MacAddict are amazing. I think some of these vendors would be offering the iMac for at least $100 below list.
