marcos, I would not put it to a non-believer in those same terms. Alan being a christian should understand it better, but maybe not. The spiritual reality for mankind is that we are in the unfortunate position of being in one of two camps. We can't be an independent (as we can when we don't like the dems or repubs <gg>) spiritually, their is only the "lost" and the "saved". At one time all mankind was "lost" and under the control of the devil meaning he owned every soul. This happened when Adam disobeyed God and lost fellowship with God and through Adam we all were "lost". Though Adam was still physically alive he died spiritually, being separated from God is the definition of "spiritual death". That is how he (and us also as his descendants) came under the dominion of satan who was the destroyer from the beginning and the father of death. There are two spiritual conditions, death or life. Death, separated from God and under the dominion of satan or alive in Jesus and in fellowship with God. Jesus came, "to save that which was lost" as the word says. So now everyone has the option of escaping "spiritual death" and escaping the lordship of satan by accepting Jesus and becoming spiritually alive and under the Lordship of Jesus. The devil encourages everyone who will to believe he does not exist. If you believed he did you would be worried and maybe run to Jesus and the devil doesn't want that. He wants you to believe he doesn't exist right up to the day you meet him and he claims your soul for all eternity. Think about it. Bob
