I do not understand how an ADR works. Does increased demand for an ADR increase the price of the ADR (since the price of the ADR is based on the price of the value of the stock on the German exchange) ? Does an increase in demand of the ADR push up the price in Germany ?

I had also wondered a little about the low volume knowing how popular the stock is with institutions. I found out that most of the liquidity is trading the ordinary shares in Frankfort and converting them to the ADR's.I dont know the process, the rules for conversion or the limitations. Maybe someone else on the thread is familiar with the strategy. So I would take the volume numbers we see as inaccurate.
