What I think he was referring to was the situation at Bay. He must
be an astute observer and notices how Bay attempts to compete. He
probably sees what it did to Bay and wants to avoid it-- No ??

Actually Stockman I have heard that one before. You must have a short memory.
Seems as if a one of the great pioneers of the Valley once wrote a book on it. Called "Only the Paranoid Survive" Read the book, sounds familiar. We all know him as Andy Grove CEO of Intel. Looking at the results of Intel during Grove's reign, I say we Cisco shareholders are going to enjoy our rise.

"We remain paranoid about the competition both from start-ups and traditional competitors in the voice market," Chambers said. "Competition continues to intensify. Many enjoy a large install base, and the large players with deep pockets will make it challenging."

I just bought my first shares of CSCO and have enjoyed the rise. What a company!
