All,

I currently have no position in GTW but thought this info might be of interest to the thread.

According to IDC, Gateway was third in market share in 1Q98 behind Compaq and then Dell. Last year same time, they were fifth behind Compag, Dell, NEC/Packard Bell, IBM.

According to Dataquest's study Gateway was 4th in market share in 1Q98 behind Compaq, Dell, NEC/PB.

Either way, 3rd or 4th is pretty darn good and YTY shipment growth has been very impressive so far. Also, both studies now show Gateway ahead of IBM in market share.

Thanks for the anecdote. Wonder how many folks are lining up for 400 Mhz machines. Bet they're selling more of the cheaper ones -- I wouldn't base my worries on this. They are getting creamed elsewhere -- like on the low-end.
