Maybe this is also a back-door opportunity to find a Japanese player in the alliance. Discussing further consolidation in the auto industry, today's WSJ queries:

"And who would the buyers be? A prime candidate would, in fact, be the newly merged Daimler-Chrysler; it would be flush with cash and presumably would be eager for another auto maker, particularly in Japan, where neither Chrysler nor Daimler has a presence."

Regarding potential implications for Ballard, or fuel cells, however, Wall St. has simply yawned.
