>>Wednesday May 6, 9:50 pm Eastern Time Apple planning for big demand of iMacs-CFO CUPERTINO, Calif., May 6 (Reuters) - Apple Computer Inc. Chief Financial Officer Fred Anderson said Wednesday that Apple is planning for big demand for its new consumer Macintosh model, the iMac, which will be shipping in volume in 90 days. ''We are going to plan for a big success,'' Anderson said in a brief interview following the company's press conference here, where interim chief executive Steve Jobs rolled out a new line of PowerBooks and showed its consumer Mac, priced at $1,299. ''We are going to put in place the capacity to respond to a big success,'' said Anderson. ''We think the demand will be huge.'' He declined to provide any volume forecasts. Anderson said that he could not comment on what kind of profit margins Apple expects to see from the new iMac product, which is aimed at the cut-throat, low-cost PC retail market. ''We still expect to see overall gross margins of 23 percent,'' Anderson said. Apple will sell the iMac in its store-within-a-store retail environment at CompUSA Inc. (CPU - news) stores and over its Web site on the Internet. Anderson said he does not believe Apple will have any manufacturing problems with the new Mac, which is an all-in-one system design with an external keyboard, with a translucent aqua and clear plastic enclosure and a carrying handle. "It's easy (to manufacture)," Anderson said. Lou Mazzucchelli, an analyst at Gerard Klauer Mattison & Co., said that he believes Apple's margins will be less than on its G3 PowerMacintoshes, but still profitable. ''Compared to the other PCs, it will compare favorably to others in its price range,'' Mazzucchelli said. ''It's way cool.''<< Source:biz.yahoo.com Essam..
