Please elaborate, are you saying it is a fact that the two drugs were "injected into the tumors directly" in the mice? I was under the impression that they were injected into the bloodstream. If you or someone else can clearly correct my impression please do so.

Marc

You do not understand the biology.
The inhibitor molecule circulates in the blood stream. It has a very long half life and controls the growth of distant micro tumors and stops them from growing.

This is part of a exquisitely complex NATURAL feedback regulation system that controls the growth of a baby in the womb. Vessels and tissue must grow where and when they are needed and not in other places. A tumor produces this material and it stops other tumors from growing. The natural way to deliver this would be as a small insert under the skin that would mimic a tumor and slowly release the inhibitor. The concept already is in use with birth control devices.

Think of curing a tumor like getting into a building. There are a number of ways to do it. You can beat the door down with a sledge hammer, you can use a crow bar, or a truck full of explosives. All of these ways have the tendency to damage the building. IF YOU UNDERSTAND HOW THE LOCK WORKS AND YOU HAVE A KEY YOU CAN GET IN QUITE EASILY (and you still have an intact building). ENTREMED AND SOME OF THE OTHERS ARE LEARNING TO UNDERSTAND THE LOCK AND JUST MIGHT HAVE FOUND THE KEY OR LEARN HOW TO PICK THE LOCK!
