Fri 8 May 98 News Release
Mr. Jeff Herman reports
NHC Communications' Switchex/DVS Automated Cross-connect Switch can be used
to facilitate rapid deployment of xDSL services. In particular, with the
affordable and highly scaleable Switchex/DVS, now CLECs, RBOCs, ISPs, and
CAPs are able to quickly deliver new xDSL services (i.e., ADSL, ADSL Lite,
SDSL, HDSL, HDSL2, and UDSL) and also perform circuit modifications (MACs)
without the need for costly manual intervention.
Switchex/DVS dramatically reduces labour costs over conventional MDFs that
require on-site wiring by experienced personnel to connect and disconnect
subscriber lines. It automates the entire process of rewiring subscriber or
individual desktop connections for analog or digital telephony circuits,
and can be controlled either locally or remotely via PC console. By
eliminating the traditional need for manual changes to the cable plant in
Distribution Frames, Switchex/DVS facilitates rapid, reliable and flexible
unattended moves, changes and line allocations.
Switchex/DVS actually lies between the subscriber lines and the voice,
ISDN, T1 and xDSL lines in the CO where it handles the provisioning of xDSL
and other services to new and existing subscribers. Once copper lines have
been checked and xDSL modems have been installed, Switchex/DVS has the
ability to then automatically switch the service over from low-speed voice
or even ISDN or T1 lines to xDSL at the CO.
With the increasing user demand for higher speed Internet access and for
speedier downloads of multimedia feeds and other large files, interest in
xDSL services is expected to grow very rapidly over the next few years.
Switchex/DVS is therefore an ideal solution for the CLECs, RBOCs, ISPs and
CAPs who will need to respond to that demand, because it provides them with
an affordable way to speed deployment of xDSL to both new and existing
subscribers.
Switchex/DVS features an easy-to-use graphical user interface for
connection control, and includes an integrated database for line and
exchange attributes that simplifies access control and configuration.
Additionally, it provides comprehensive scenario and configuration options
that are available through a SNMP-based, Windows 95 management station.
These valuable management features serve to enhance productivity and
improve customer service as well, by allowing complex changes to be
accumulated and initiated outside of normal business hours, To ensure
continued reliable operation, Switchex/DVS also includes a fail safe design
that maintains circuit connections even in the event of a power loss.
Switchex/DVS can support voice/data grade telephony circuits up to xDSL
data rates, and is scaleable from 200 to 5400 subscriber lines in a single
system. In addition, up to three units may be controlled by one SNMP
controller, and a virtually unlimited number may be managed by the VCCS32
management system software residing on a PC platform.
Other valuable features provided by Switchex/DVS include:
Extremely compact, modular 19 inch and 23 inch telco rack-mount design; and
Support for analog voice, ISDN, Basic Rate, X.25, Frame Relay, Fractional
T-1, Kilostream, T1, and xDSL.
