I can't believe that I can't find a single person that recognizes the major importance of being able to press a button on the machine and be instantly connected to the internet. hello?!?!?

Hi. Why is this such a big deal? I press an on-screen button to "instantly connect" to the internet right now. In the case of modems however, connections are not really instant.

But Travis, this iMac is also heavily aimed at the current consumer Mac user who hasn't upgraded for years. These people have all their backups on floppy, most likely. So I dunno.

Lou Dobbs seemed to get a kick out of Jobs. The iMac looks 500% better live than it does on the Apple website. Jobs made the good point that there are 3000 licensed Apple dealers, so Apple expects no distribution problems.

See, the drums are beating now. We've got Jobs appearing on business shows, we've got local media covering the event (Dennis' post, etc.), we've got people who are going to read it in the paper tomorrow morning and put in a retail buy, we've got Anderson's bullish hints, this is all good. Upgrades tomorrow, or will they risk waiting until after the OS strategy gets revealed Monday and the share price is higher?

Marc

PS--Eric, thanks for the note about the pre-G3 stuff. Anderson's comment about there being no writedowns to come, plus the sharp drop in the inventory figures per the quarterly report is borne out in your observation. My local Mac chain used to have stacks of Performas in the aisles until late last year. But early this year the stacks of 6500s were gone.

It seems to me that the the 33.3 k modem offering for the iMac is such a glaring
defect on a so called internet connectivity machine that it is too bizzare to be
really real .

I'm thinking that when all is said and done and we are looking at a shipping iMac
in August there will be a 56k modem under the hood.

This has got to be some sort of ploy by Jobs to get a 56k Mfg. to make an offer that
can't be refused. Is there anybody even making new 33.3k modems these days?

He will turn this to his advantage and score easy points by being won over by
astute executive at one of these modem Mfg's who will show him the way

I don't know...... I just find 33.3 too-ooo unbelievable

Got out @ 30.375 . Looking for a slight pull back, Will wait to see what I can see. Will
re-enter regardless prior to wwdc.
