GB, this info confirmed by paragraph on May 7 front page of
Investor's Business Daily:

ETHANOL TAX BREAKS ALIVE
The biggest obstacle to extending tax breaks for corn-based
ethanol was removed by House Speaker Newt Gingrich. He didn't
appoint the highest-ranking opponent, Rep. Bill Archer, R-Texas,
to a conference committee negotiating a big transportation bill.
The 5.4-cents-a-gallon tax break, for marketers of gasoline
blended with ethanol, is due to end in 2000. The Senate version
of the highway bill extends it until 2007.
