Kevin,
I'm sure I speak for everyone on this thread when I say, THANK YOU! I hope you have voice recognition software or perhaps hands of steel to type all that ;)

Although we may not see immediate short term results, I can't imagine a better way to utilize a small portion of UTEK's huge cash position.

Kevin: Wow - thanks a bunch. Looks like a clear plan but there are obstacles to me not the least of which is convincing all those other US big-wigs to join.

Random info from USAL conference.

No matter what the post-optical technology (EUV, SCALPEL), the litho machine will cost $15-20M.

The Univ of Texas 0.08 micron breakthrough is not viable for production. Its not a challenger.

I saw a rep from Grumman there. Could defense companies play a role?

The food: mini crab cakes, mini egg rolls, beef in philo dough, and lamb. All delicious.

Semi Industry Outlook
Expect the worst news this summer and then improvement. I've really been hoping for some unexpected upside news, but its not going to happen. This sector is in the doldrums. Semi stock prices are being supported by those moving in early to catch the inevitable next upswing.

Tremendous report, Kevin! Justa--Presumably potential investors were among the 30 people attending (described in Kevin's report as mostly industry-based and government, not reporters). Since this is a "keep the USA in the game" kind of project, we should not be surprised if some sort of federal or state support were mentioned in the future (remember Sematech and MCC, byproducts of the cyclical semiconductor industry's last big trough, circa 1987???)

Thanks too, to Katherine for letting Kevin know of the meeting and reminding us about the long-term role of R&D.

No shorts will rejoice over this news, clearly. Expect them to pooh-pooh it for a while in hopes of generating a short-term decline in stock prices that will let them buy back in. JULIA
