Paul,

Please do not laugh at me...but the two current "cool" things I have see lately on the Web are Macromedia's Flash 3 Vector Technology (ie. the Gabocorp site I referenced a little earlier), which allows much more interactive and aesthetic sites that were not possible before with a conventional 28.8. Another is a thing I check out earlier this am, which is called "metastream" at metastream.com and it is also pretty cool. It became available as a plug in Today! I was using it just minutes ago to move around 3D objects on the Web in Real Time and thought it was pretty amazing. I believe this can work with Flash 3, rather than compete against it, although I am not sure. It utilizes technology grabbed from 'Sasha', a Russian genius physics fellow ( metacreations.com )...although it may be a pain in the _ss, check it out if you have any time. These are the technologies that I am convinced will help shape our next several years. :-)
Also,

metacreations.com

MCRE and INTC have worked on several projects in the past, including using Sasha's RTG stuff with Real3D.

cheers,
all imho,
pigboy

Paul, Article...Intel, Fore to integrate Ethernet, ATM

LAS VEGAS -- Intel Corp. and Fore Systems Inc. plan to integrate Ethernet and ATM technology into each other's products, the companies announced here Tuesday at NetWorld+Interop.

The agreement consists of joint product development and marketing efforts.

As a result of the alliance, Intel (INTC) will have the chance to get asynchronous transfer mode uplinks into its Fast Ethernet switches. Fore, for its part, will be able to extend itself into the medium-size business market with scalable products, officials said.

The first product to emerge from the alliance will be a Fast Ethernet switch from Fore.

The ES-2810 is a 24-port 10/100 switch, priced at $154 per port, which is basically the same price as current switches from Intel. Due in June, the product is meant to be an extension to Fore's current 3810 ATM-based products.

The company is also introducing the stackable FSX-4/TX, a four-port 10/100BaseTX module, and the FSM-2/FX, a two-port 100BaseFX module, which cost $995 and $1,495, respectively.

By the end of the year, Fore will have an ATM uplink for the switch, officials said.

Both companies plan to introduce jointly developed products throughout the year, officials said, although it wasn't clear when the first actual combination ATM/Fast Ethernet products would be available.

Interesting alliance.
