Calling all elves:

A few weeks ago the TA followers on this thread observed that the Bollinger Bands were tightening, which I understood to mean that a large move up or down was likely.

Did we have our large move? Are they continuing to tighten? How often are they a false positive indicator?

No baiting here, I'm just curious to learn more about the utility of TA in general, and to ANCR in particular.

Greg

FICON-IBM S390 news

>>Of potentially greater importance, however, is the introduction of a significant enhancement to the world-class ESCONr architecture that provides much faster access to disk arrays and tape.

FIbre Channel CONnectivity (FICONT) can coexist with current channels in any model S/390 G5 Server or follow-on server. It's designed to support 100MB/second bidirectional data transfer rates -- compared to ESCON's 17MB/second unidirectional throughput -- at distances of up to 20 kilometers over fiber optic cables. The effective difference in bandwidth will be much greater due to the higher efficiency of FICON compared to ESCON.

The initial FICON implementation, scheduled for early 1999, will attach existing ESCON devices, with each FICON channel supporting up to eight ESCON channels. That means an S/390 G5 Server with 12 FICON channels installed will have an effective bandwidth increase of nearly 20 percent. Later in 1999, IBM's Storage Systems Division expects to introduce their first native FICON devices, permitting direct attachment to S/390 G5 Servers. Software enhancements to permit full utilization of the increased bandwidth are expected to appear concurrently.

In addition to enhanced performance and channel limitation relief, the move to FICON will reduce complexity by simplifying cabling requirements and will therefore also increase ease of use.<<
