'Sub-zero' is a zero sum game.

Jim:

I also heard the other day this sub-1000 PC segment is not a profitable venture. They were saying Packard Bell tried this for years and never made any money at it even when there weren't much competition in this space. Now CPQ,I think, got 40% of or so of the Sub-1000 segment and possibly growing meaning the more they sell this crap the less money they make.Oh well may be they can make it up on volume.<gg>

Jim, I saw a study on channel inventory levels a few days ago that agrees with your assertion that Compaq has started to stuff the channel again. The study compared Apple, IBM, HP & CPQ in terms of days sales of inventory in the channel. The report concluded that Compaq inventory had spiked upwards in March. I didn't bookmark the report and now I can't find it any longer.
