Caisson, I think you are confusing two things. The consumer is unaware of such issues as inventories or profitability. The consumer cares about issues such as price, performance and reliability. And it is precisely those issues that motivate consumers regardless of whether they are corporate, government or retail. So it is a mistake IMO to attribute Compaq's market share woes to the questions raised by its ability to operate profitably. For example, how does inventory cause a decrease in customer satisfaction?
