"Last year VST enabled PowerBook to be the first notebook to have an internal zip drive peripheral. As a result, the VST Zip is quickly becoming the floppy replacement for many PowerBook customers," said Greg Joswiak, director of Apple's PowerBook Product Market. "This year, VST is delivering again by introducing the Zip100 at the same time that we're introducing the new PowerBook G3. With the dual expansion bay capability of the PowerBook G3, the Zip100 makes an excellent peripheral option for our customers." Zip100 for PowerBook G3 The VST Zip100 provides PowerBook G3 owners unmatched storage capacity and performance, enabling simple, fast access to today's larger multimedia and graphics files, digital photos, Internet downloads and business presentations. "Our newest Zip100 satisfies PowerBook owners needs for larger, more secure data storage that is fast, easy to use and hot-swappable with other expansion bay devices," said Fedele. The VST Zip100 drive uses standard Iomega(R) Zip disks - the long-awaited replacement for floppy disks - providing about 70 times as much storage as a 1.44MB floppy. In addition, the Zip100 is about 40 percent faster than an external Zip drive, providing a truly portable, personal storage solution specifically designed for today's mobile users. Included with the Zip100 is a Zip Tools cartridge with a Mac OS system pre-installed, so the Zip100 is bootable out-of-the-box. VST Technologies began shipping the first internal Zip100 drives in 1997 with the introduction of models for earlier generation Apple PowerBooks equipped with an Expansion Bay, including the 190, 5300, 1400, 3400/G3. In addition, VST manufactures the Zip100 for NEC Versa, IBM ThinkPad and Fujitsu LifeBook series notebook computers.
