Cisco noted that they expect L3 routing switches, which Accelar is addressing, to be $2bil by 2001.

Accelar is shipping in full force now. When Cisco comes out with their 8500s, Accelar will still be about 1/3 the price. Unlike BS350, a product that is easily commoditized, Accelar is targeted at enterprise backbones, which only two vendors are really allowed to participate - Cisco and Bay. Note that 3Com are the 'edge' guys and are trying very hard to enter the enterprise market.

One of the key reason for Bay's shortfall was pricing and I hope this time around, Bay will manage pricing carefully. Bay is a company with a great brand image in the enterprise, so it does not have to rely purely on price.
