Yeah, Craig, I Saw That On ZDNet...

Sure, best case (if you're of such a mind), DIS
could be--and should be--looking at SEEK. I mean,
they already have a pretty solid advertising relationship.

But, if you were speculating about a strong relationship--one
that would make perfect sense from a demographic
viewpoint--wouldn't you look at AOL & DIS? Not
necessarily a merger, for sure... but some kind
co-branded venture...? This would be DIS playing
to the Branson, MO of the Web (not that AOL is
THAT cheesey)... a marriage made
in demographer heaven.

As for all this speculation, it's a floating craps game...
lots of fluidity and uncertainty and keeping your feet
moving. All the search engines (or directories-to-be)
are shadow boxing and posturing through press releases.
Sure, some REAL, CONCRETE deals are happening... some
better (SEEK/WBS), some worse (XCIT/NSCP). But, in
this scramble for big alliances... SEEK has the
curious, inexplicable sheen of one who opportunity
will bless in huge, unforeseeable ways. SEEK is
the conspicuous "beauty" at the dance who didn't bring
a date...

Before, during the time of the SPO, SEEK had
that "laggard and underperformer" story going for it.
Perfect pitch material for road shows and ML brokers.

Now, it's not JUST the laggard story... because
SEEK has made some sweet moves (like WBS and Deutsche
Telekom.) And, via the NSCP negotiations, it has
sent a signal: Bring serious offers and value... and
don't expect us to jump on just any hay ride.

Best Regards,
