Well, I don't agree. Some software ships on floppies.

I am just trying to point out that if people want the floppy, then I'm sure they can get it bto. Jobs also said that it was aimed at the people who want on the internet and play games. Remember the target market. That market will rarely use floppies, and those who do will order one. I, of course, can't imagine being without a floppy-but the person who Jobs is going after to buyt this won't care.

Maybe it will help if I could find some stats for the board. Where I work I have stats coming out the wazoo. In fact, one just came across my desk from Odyssy Homefront on the most used plug-ins. Pleasantly surprised, Quicktime was #1 with it being installed in 25% of all browsers. This is great as I sometimes have a hard time convincing co-workers that Quicktime is so popular. I will try to find stats on how much software (especially internet and games-the target market) comes on floppies and also how many people use their floppies now.

Also realize that Steve can't make the iMac *too* feature-laden or it'll take away sales from the high margin desktops.

Hi Linda! I'm new on this thread. I'm long and sold some yesterday. Look what my analyst has to say about AAPL. [I hate him :) ]
Best regards,
Ari

Alvaro,

The iMac looks to be an interesting product, but there is still no
change in my outlook. I am perhaps more worried than before, because
Apple announced a whole new line of very aggressively priced laptops
yesterday which will cause current channel inventories to lose their
value very quickly. Typically, PC companies release one new model at a
time-- Apple has totally refreshed the entire line at the same time. Bad move in my view.

There will be a note up on the system this morning as soon as possible.

I'd still recommend selling in the low thirties-- your client may well
have the opportunity to get back in at a lower price during the next six months if he so chooses.

Regards,

Richard

Linda sez: Well, I don't agree. Some software ships on floppies. How does it get installed? A CNBC
reporter just mentioned that it was weird that it didn't have a floppy, though he seemed to like
the machine. It is a perceived drawback, as is the slow modem. The lack of SCSI is not the same
level of problem since the PC people don't expect SCSI. We do, but they don't, so it won't hurt
this machine as much.

I don't think anyone should get caught up in this prototype's feature set. As Travis has said many times there will certainly be many BTO options (which may include floppies, 56k modems, etc) if not several different feature set options in retail environments.

I think the object of this particular version of the iMac was to present a machine that featured a number of future-looking technologies (iRDa port, USB, fast processor) AT AN ATTRACTIVE PRICE! There were probably endless discussions about the group of features that would be presented, but ultimately they have to consider its market position and therefore the bottom line at presentation time - price. This would have been a spectacular disaster if it had been priced out at 1499, 1599 or 1699...as it stands I think they have a contender.

Seems many PC users are willing to forego all sorts of niceties for their sub-1K machines...I think iMac gives more for the same money.
