WIRELESS APPLICATION PROTOCOL SPECIFICATION VERSION 1.0
NOW PUBLISHED ON THE WORLD WIDE WEB

- WAP Forum Delivers Version 1.0 Specification to Enable
Internet/intranet Access Combined with Advanced Telephony Services
on Wireless Devices

The Wireless Application Protocol (WAP) Forum announces that the WAP
version 1.0 specification is now publicly available from the WAP
Forum Web site at wapforum.org

The founding members - Ericsson, Motorola, Nokia, and Unwired Planet
(TM) - developed the first draft of the specification, which was
published in February. The completed Wireless Application Protocol
version 1.0 specification is based on input from many of the 37 new
WAP Forum members.

Open meetings were held in London and Miami to discuss the draft
specification. Input that was received from meetings and via the WAP
Forum Web site, was considered in the editing process by WAP Forum
working groups.

The WAP version 1.0 specifications are a set of 19 documents, which
define the overall WAP architecture: A Wireless Application
Environment which defines the Wireless Markup Language, Script
Language, and Wireless Telephony Application Interface; A transport
layer that includes support for Datagram Protocol, Transaction
Protocol, Control Message Protocol, and Transport Layer Security;
and a Wireless Session Protocol specification enabling both
connection-mode and connectionless services. All of the documents
can be found at the WAP Forum Web site at
wapforum.org

WAP brings Internet content and advanced services to digital
cellular phones and other wireless terminals. WAP is a global
wireless protocol specification that works across the following
wireless network technology types: GSM (900, 1800 & 1900MHz), PDC,
CDMA (IS-95 and/or IS-707), US-TDMA (IS-136), iDEN (ESMR), DataTAC,
Mobitex, CDPD, DECT, PHS, FLEX (TM) and ReFLEX (TM).

Applications using WAP are scaleable across a variety of transport
options and device types. A common standard offers potential
economies of scale, encouraging cellular phone and other device
manufacturers to invest in developing compatible products. With WAP,
cellular and other wireless network carriers and content providers
are able to develop new differentiated service offerings as a way to
attract new subscribers, while consumers benefit from more and
varied choices in mobile communications applications, advanced
services and Internet access.

ABOUT THE WAP FORUM
WAP specifies Internet content and advanced telephony services
access on digital cellular phones and other wireless terminals. The
WAP Forum has published a global wireless protocol specification for
all wireless networks that will be contributed to appropriate
standards bodies.

WAP enables manufacturers, network operators, content providers and
application developers to offer compatible products and secure
services on all digital devices and networks resulting in greater
economies of scale and universal access to information. WAP Forum
membership is open to all industry participants. WAP version 1.0
specification and membership details are available at

ERICSSON LEAVES DANISH TERMA

Ericsson has sold its share in the Danish firm Terma Elektronik A/S.
The buyer of Ericsson's share in the company is the current majority
owner, the Thomas B. Thrige fund. The reason for the sale is
Ericsson's intensified focus in Denmark on the core business area
Infocom.

"We want to concentrate more on our prime areas of operation," says
Bj”rn Olsson, President of Ericsson A/S in Denmark. "We want
Ericsson to become a global leader in this area and thus we want to
ensure an optimum use of resources."

Ericsson Microwave has worked together with Terma since 1993. The
Danish defense company has done contract manufacturing, and had a
hand in the sale of Ericsson Mircrowave's Artillery Hunting Radar,
Arthur, to the Danish Armed Forces.

"Our business relationship with Terma will not affected by the
sale," explains Jan-ke Kark, President of Ericsson Microwave. "We
are convinced that we can continue to work together without Ericsson
ownership. The Thomas B. Thriges fund has taken this opportunity to
acquire the remaining shares and become sole owner of Terma.

Ericsson's 100,000 employees are active in more than 130 countries.
Their combined expertise in fixed and mobile networks, mobile phones
and infocom systems makes Ericsson a world-leading supplier in
telecommunications.

ERICSSON AND THE NEW YORK CITY INVESTMENT FUND
OPEN ERICSSON'S CYBERLAB IN SILICON ALLEY

Ericsson's CyberLab, a new world-class Internet R&D facility located
in the heart of New York's Silicon Alley, was inaugurated today at a
grand opening at the facility located in the New York Technology
Center at 55 Broad Street.

CyberLab is a collaborative effort between Ericsson, a global leader
in telecommunications committed to research and development, and the
New York City Investment Fund, an organization supported by more
than 60 New York-based companies. CyberLab in Silicon Alley will
provide a state-of-the-art environment for developing and
prototyping software and applications that will help build the next
generation of communication and commerce on the Internet.

Hosting the event were Sven-Christer Nilsson, the recently appointed
President and CEO of Ericsson; Henry Kravis, the Chairman of the New
York City Investment Fund; Bo Hedfors, the President of Ericsson
Inc.; William Rudin, Owner/Developer of the Technology Center and
Donna Campbell, the Director of Ericsson's CyberLab in Silicon
Alley.

"Ericsson is committed to research and development and CyberLab in
Silicon Alley is a logical extension of these programs," said
Sven-Christer Nilsson, President and CEO of Ericsson. "Our annual
investments in technical development in recent years have amounted
to 15 to 20 percent of our global sales. This new research facility
represents Ericsson's commitment to the Internet and
Internet-related industries in New York City."

"We are pleased to have played a part in securing CyberLab for New
York," said Henry R. Kravis, Chairman of the New York City
Investment Fund. "Ericsson's research and development commitment to
New York City will help generate innovative new business
opportunities for the city's flourishing Internet industry."

"Our goal is to create an environment that fosters successful
collaboration between Ericsson's global technology team and the
innovators of Silicon Alley," said Donna Campbell, Director of
Ericsson's CyberLab in Silicon Alley.

CyberLab in Silicon Alley will provide the following services:

- A 5,000 square foot facility located in the New York Technology
Center

edge technology companies

Ericsson opened its first CyberLab last year in the heart of
California's Silicon Valley. The facility focused on the development
of hardware and software required for Internet infrastructure. Now,
CyberLab in Silicon Alley brings Ericsson's advanced wired and
mobile network telecommunications expertise and its global marketing
and distribution strength to New York City. The Lab offers a virtual
bridge to the West Coast facility, and will create a collaborative
environment that will help leverage the talents and intellectual
capital of New York's Internet-related industries.

CyberLab has an Advisory Board with representatives from the New
York City Investment Fund, including Clifford Friedman (Senior
Managing Director, Bear Sterns Constellation Ventures Management);
Edward Horowitz (Executive Vice President, Citicorp); Michael
Lobdell (Managing Director, J.P. Morgan & Co.); Richard Stowe
(General Partner, Welsh, Carson, Anderson & Stowe); Albert Waxman
(Managing Partner, Aurora Group Partners) and Fred Wilson (Managing
Partners, Flatiron Partners).

The New York City Investment Fund was established in 1996 by Henry
Kravis and the New York City Partnership and Chamber of Commerce to
promote job growth and business development in the five boroughs. It
is currently capitalized at USD 60M. Investors contribute USD 1M
each to a revolving facility that will reinvest earnings in other
worthwhile projects, so that dividends come in the form of benefits
to the City, rather than as financial returns to investors.

Ericsson's 100,000 employees are active in more than 130 countries.
Their combined expertise in wired and mobile networks, mobile phones
and infocom systems makes Ericsson a world-leading supplier of
telecommunications.
