Ericsson's CyberLab, a new world-class Internet R&D facility located in the heart of New York's Silicon Alley, was inaugurated today at a grand opening at the facility located in the New York Technology Center at 55 Broad Street.
CyberLab is a collaborative effort between Ericsson, a global leader in telecommunications committed to research and development, and the New York City Investment Fund, an organization supported by more than 60 New York-based companies. "Our annual investments in technical development in recent years have amounted to 15 to 20 percent of our global sales. This new research facility represents Ericsson's commitment to the Internet and Internet-related industries in New York City."
"We are pleased to have played a part in securing CyberLab for New York," said Henry R. Kravis, Chairman of the New York City Investment Fund. "Ericsson's research and development commitment to New York City will help generate innovative new business opportunities for the city's flourishing Internet industry."

Ericsson opened its first CyberLab last year in the heart of California's Silicon Valley. The facility focused on the development of hardware and software required for Internet infrastructure. Now, CyberLab in Silicon Alley brings Ericsson's advanced wired and mobile network telecommunications expertise and its global marketing and distribution strength to New York City. The Lab offers a virtual bridge to the West Coast facility, and will create a collaborative environment that will help leverage the talents and intellectual capital of New York's Internet-related industries.
CyberLab has an Advisory Board with representatives from the New York City Investment Fund, including Clifford Friedman (Senior Managing Director, Bear Sterns Constellation Ventures Management); Edward Horowitz (Executive Vice President, Citicorp); Michael Lobdell (Managing Director, J.P. Morgan & Co.); Richard Stowe (General Partner, Welsh, Carson, Anderson & Stowe); Albert Waxman (Managing Partner, Aurora Group Partners) and Fred Wilson (Managing Partners, Flatiron Partners).
The New York City Investment Fund was established in 1996 by Henry Kravis and the New York City Partnership and Chamber of Commerce to promote job growth and business development in the five boroughs. It is currently capitalized at USD 60M. Investors contribute USD 1M each to a revolving facility that will reinvest earnings in other worthwhile projects, so that dividends come in the form of benefits to the City, rather than as financial returns to investors.
Ericsson's 100,000 employees are active in more than 130 countries. Their combined expertise in wired and mobile networks, mobile phones and infocom systems makes Ericsson a world-leading supplier of telecommunications.
