Unless things have radically changed in the Boston market, there will be alot of unemployable ex-DEC employees. Particularly the older ones. It's a tough job market out there unless you are willing to work 70+ hours /week for under $60k/year.

I read somewhere that the charge for the layoff of 15000 employees would be $2B.

CPQ/DEC write off:

What do you guys live in a hole? This is already old news:

Digital said in a regulatory filing released Wednesday that
while the exact amount of the restructuring costs is not
known, management believes that the costs could range between
$1.5 billion and $2.0 billion.

Mohan,

CPQ will have no profits this year. Their core PC business is no longer profitable and now they have to take a 2B write off. They will be underwater until sometime next year at the earliest. DEC had some 50 M in reported profits last quarter. At that level of profitability it could take them 20-40 quarters to pay for the write offs. Meantime, the margins on their enterprise business is being reduced by ~10% and they are losing revenue market share.
