Technology allows wireless transmission of voice, high speed data and multimedia content

WHAT: InterDigital Communications Corporation (ASE:IDC) will host a demonstration of its B-CDMA(tm) (Broadband Code Division Multiple Access(tm) wireless local loop system which has just been chosen by Unicom, a state-owned telephone company in China, for use in Chongqing.

The demonstration will include telephone, Internet and live videoconferencing. There will also be an opportunity to tour the Melville laboratory and to interview Dr. Gary Lomp, chief technology officer and inventor of the B-CDMA technology.

WHEN: Tuesday, May 12, 1998 at 10:00 a.m. and 1:00 p.m.

FACTS: Samsung Electronics Co., one of InterDigital's alliance partners, is supplying the first B-CDMA wireless local loop system in the world, to China. The system will be installed in the city of Chongqing in the first half of 1998 with a test operation scheduled for the second half of 1998.

InterDigital is an expert in the wireless local loop market, with particular expertise in the design and development of air interface technology. The company holds more than 550 patents in 50 countries covering two core wireless technologies: B- CDMA (Broadband-Code Division Multiple Access ) and TDMA (Time Division Multiple Access).

The company recently announced the appointment of two new senior telecommunications executives (from BellSouth and AT&T/Lucent) to its board of directors; the establishment of two licensing agreements with major Japanese cellular manufacturers valued at $33 million and the addition of French telecommunications giant Alcatel to their B-CDMA alliance. IDC's research and technology facility is located in Melville, Long Island. The company is headquartered in King of Prussia, PA.
