I have never purchased anything using the net--other than trading stocks. Have you done so? In fact, how many people on this thread have done so--and even if they have, how significant have these purchases been?

I'm a people, so I'll respond. My 'net purchases, excepting trading:

Item - source
-------- ----------
1 book -- Amazon.com
3 CD set, 3 cassette set -- Not from K-Tel, were specialty items.
1 notebook computer (group gift, I ordered it) - NWCD.com

Not a large list, but I was comfortable with it. I'll add that I've bought a few peripheral upgrade items and a PC by mail-order (phone order) -- and I plan to order exclusively from internet sites for all future computers/peripherals. Reason - That way I know the order will be correct. When I mail-ordered my current Dell by phone a couple years ago, the order got screwed up just because the salesperson neglected to put the order in correctly.

Tom, so far all I've done is buy stocks, but I've come across some real eye-openers on the web in the past month...

1) Just saw this banner ad for a free credit report I'm going to get: consumerinfo.com

2) I'm coordinating travel for a family reunion. Two of us in separate cities have to fly to another city, rent a car and drive 100 miles to a small outlying town. I have four windows open at the Yahoo! travel site right now giving me quotes and dates on plane tickets, auto rental, and motel reservations, and the ability to book them. I can bookmark the web pages and forward them to my relative by email for discussion. The airline prices look OK and I will probably book my flight that way, but the auto rental prices seem a bit incomplete. See: travel.yahoo.com

3) At the Dell online site you can now configure your new PC with any number of options and get a price: commerce.us.dell.com
