Right, for email, newsgroups, maybe an occasional file transfer, and
what else? You couldn't buy anything on the net, you couldn't read
your home town newspaper (with pictures!) while out on the road,
couldn't buy and sell stocks, etc. Nobody included an internet address in television or magazine ads. The introduction of graphical
web browsers around 5 years ago totally changed the direction of
the net. You have to understand that to see how rapidly this new
medium is taking off.
