Punko, Re: >"of course the likelihood of Msft being broken up is miniscule at this point. You've got too many windbags like Rush Limbaugh saying how the big bad government is using its muscle again to stand in the way of the free enterprise system, penalize success, fetter the market, blah blah blah... I can't believe people buy into this kind of horsecrap"<

Not only FTC but many state governments are taking action against MSFT. Not sure what Rush Limbaugh can do. MSFT got together 60 companies to sign petition which hasn't yet stop or softened the FTC. Ok, may be MSFT can come to a mutual agreement, but I think the government wants something substantial before going away. They haven't come this far to settle cheap! Too much publicity also.

IMO the government cannot control the internet so the next best thing is to control the biggest and most powerful American companies who stand to gain the most from the internet. That way they can have a playing hand in a truely free enterprise going forward. They are digging their claws in place starting with Microsoft.
