GM, in fairness to the "most frequent" poster (and yes, it's extremely difficult to be fair given antics like phony headlines), the iMac appears to be a credible effort toward the NC concept.

When I was consulting for Bay (a previous gig) for example, all work was pushed up to a central server area. Any software download requirements also came from central servers. In addition to the software and work areas, each person had their own corporate server space. Thus, in this type of environment, removable media was completely unnecessary. No Zips or Jaz to be found anywhere, and floppies were generally used as coasters for the coffee mugs&#151at least in Building SC04-3 of the campus.

This is only one scenario&#151it worked for us&#151expect to see more like that in the future. In other settings, removable media may be necessary, but it wasn't here. The iMac/NC concept does have a place&#151it's cheaper and more powerful (and of course easier to use because it's a Mac) than the best PC on the market right now.

Gottfried,

Perhaps the lack of a floppy drive on the new Apple iMAC is a good
thing. People will buy them and then of course the logical addition
will be an external Zip. I see more aftermarket in this situation.

BTW, Go AAPL!!! Its great to see that company continue to set the
pace. That new G-3 notebook looks great. The iMAC should be a good
seller too. To hell with "Wintel". G-3! G-3!! G-3!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
