ROPER RESOURCES INC. ANNOUNCES SAFE ENVIRONMENT ENGINEERING
ANNOUNCES NEW PRODUCT

Trading Symbol: RRN (ASE)

VALENCIA, CA, May 7 /CNW/ - Roper Resources (RRN-ASE) has been advised by
Safe Environment Engineering, (SEE) that production schedules are in place,
and the first units of a new Portable Safety Monitor (PSM) will be assembled
on May 11, 1998. The first of the units produced will be delivered to The
Boeing Company of Seattle Washington who has already placed a large order.
The new Portable Safety Monitor incorporates a 78% reduction in size over
the currently produced model. The new unit offers improved voice quality and
greater reception range. The unit is intrinsically safe and integrates a
telemetry radio with a microcomputer which is contained within a small
industrial case. The unit is carried by an individual worker into a remote or
confined space. The unit includes a replaceable and rechargeable nickel metal
hydride battery and an internal antenna. The unit is also provided with a
flexible I/O port to allow for integration with almost any external-sensing
device, which in turn can permit, continuous and ''real time'' wireless data
logging. The I/O port will further allow for optional headset integration,
remote alarming, and a hands free push-to-talk switch. A feature of the unit
is that it incorporates internal self-diagnostics and ''fail-safe'' technology
that always notifies the user in the event of a failure, while concurrently
defaulting to voice operation. The specific packaging design of the new PSM
unit helps prevent the significant repair costs normally associated with
portable radios in industrial environments.
Roper Resources (ASE:RRN) currently holds exclusive rights to negotiate a
relationship with Safe Environment Engineering. The parties have agreed to
determine and define such relationship and further agreements by May 29, 1998.
If circumstances warrant, this date may be extended by mutual agreement. It is
Roper's intent that the outcome of these negotiations will result in agreement
where Roper will acquire a significant interest in Safe Environment
Engineering.
Safe Environment Engineering, a California Limited Partnership, is
headquartered in Valencia, California. The Company develops and supplies
communications systems which integrate wireless telemetry and voice
communication to transmit information. The Company uses this technology in its
patented Life-line(TM) systems, which, in one version, enables monitoring of
entrants into confined spaces or hazardous locations; and, in other
configuration, monitors security personnel on patrol rounds.
