Chris, IMHO, the government watched as MSFT used their monopoly to consume all the MAJOR markets (word processing, spreadsheet and database) and they are pissed at themselves for not acting. To use a freebie browser as the issue "du jour", effectively halting the free flow of commerce in this country's leading industry, would be criminal.

A better alternative to a MSFT breakup, or anything else I have heard suggested thusfar, would be to force MSFT to buy out Netscape at a premium price. Then I would finally have a Microsoft-supported browser that I really liked.
