Lucent strategy means big $$$$$ for WESTELL. The recent LU PR on their ADSL end to end solution which came out of their micro-elec division is LU's on products (including their own DSLAM). Their strategy is to have a end to end solution for new customers and is geared toward an IP solution. Their intention with Westell involves the DSLAM upgrade for all 5ESS & SLC-2000 swithes for all LU current customers and for new potential customers. I think the $$$ potential is HUGE. At present the LU 5ESS & SLC-2000 switches service a COUPLE HUNDRED MILLION LINES....YES A COUPLE HUNDRED!!!!Did you know that 60% of BEL switches are the 5ESS & SLC-2000, and that 30% are DSC Litespan. When BEL deployment details come out this summer you will see that they our to upgrade their 5ESS,SLC-2000 & Litespan switches with Westell DSLAM tech. And I feel their will be many other customers that have already purchased these three types of switches that will follow in the same manner as BEL. This deal with LU will be SO HUGE and the stock market does not know it yet. It also make LU the potential suitor for westell...However don't think someone like BEL won't purchase a stake in westell first...They know a good investment when they see one. But,in the end, I think LU most take westell.
