Hi Tommaso:

It's been awhile since this subject came up and I honestly can't remember when the Fed last raised margin requirements. It was either in the 60's or early 70's. Rates were raised to 65% and the initial reaction was the market ran up. It was around a year later that the market dropped. I'll check again for the exact dates for you. The last time this was addressed was after Greenspan's irrational exuberance speech so it's been awhile.
