General Cable Shares Could Rise With Internet Use, Paper Says</STRONG></FONT>

Highland Heights, Kentucky, May 11 (Bloomberg) -- Rising
demand for phone lines and extra wiring associated with access to
the Internet has helped General Cable Corp., which makes cable
and wire from aluminum, copper, and optical fiber, Investor's
Business Daily reported.

Last year, the company's sales grew 9 percent to $1.13 billion,
compared with a 2 percent sales dip in 1996.

While experts say it is unclear whether fiber optic cable
production will overwhelm copper and aluminum for use in data
transmission, or cheaper metal cable will continue to be in
strong demand, the Highland Heights, Kentucky-based company's
production of both kinds of cable puts it in a good position for
either scenario, the paper said.

General Cable stock has more than doubled since the
company's initial public offering last May at 21.

Left TC last Friday for my cabin. Got my ISP up today. Only
a pathetic 30 ghost postings. Guess too many people
have sold and a slow drip on the stock price. By the way,
small Northern in first 15 minutes during Walleye/Northern
Pike opener on Saturday.<g>
