Off current topic. I heard NPR radio tonight in an interview with a gent from Creative Strategies, which has been quoted in most of yesterday's news coverages. This, too, was a very positive report extolling the virtues of the iMac and downplaying the lack of the floppy drive, e.g. " the wave of the future is to go beyond the floppy and the iMac has already taken that into consideration." I wonder if some of us are thinking that there is too much hype about the iMac and not enough about the PBs and the G3s, but that's what general media is for. The PRO's know what they want, the GOs read WSJ, and the WHOAs are influenced by NPR, CNN, style - "Jetson-like look" - , Comp USA opinion, and full page ads. IMO, the consumer is going to love this product because they're going to hear a helluva of lot about it!

Jim not sure what you mean regarding "so why does IBM want this known now ?"

Since IA-64 is going after the Fortune 1000 mainframe space not sure that OS2 would ever be a player there. I think only Unix based systems are going to have credibility unless someone starts from scratch.

All the partners you would think would be more suitable if you believed Apple was lined up against Microsoft already have their own products for IA-64. The only one who supposedly doesn't is the one who most needs one - Microsoft. So going way out on a limb, Microsoft is Apple's natural partner for a Merced OS.

Regards Jobs not attending Gates's support party - on the other hand the lack of condemnation by Jobs is deafening considering all the other supposedly anti-Microsoft folks have chimed in. In fact since last year I would challenge you to find one anti-Microsoft statement by Jobs.
