First indication of the NEW AAPL Software Company ?

The "news" of the Macromedia deal is not a "secret" but a leak of valuable information for those investors not be distracted by "re-designing" the iMAC .

Evidence that next week's WWDC will unveil AAPL's new thrust into OS and multi-platform application software .

For the "trigger pullers" , be aware WWDC lasts a week and S Jobs is committed to ending AAPL's stock wild swings .

May 15th may be a pivotal day for MSFT .

Taking a moment from the QT presentation to see what everyone's been saying. Passing McKenna's version along, FYI:

****Apple Macintosh OS-Ten Due Fall Of 1999

Newsbytes - May 11, 1998 18:16

SAN JOSE, CALIFORNIA, U.S.A., 1998 MAY 11 (NB) -- By Patrick McKenna, Newsbytes. Apple Computer [NASDAQ:AAPL] has unveiled a detailed operating system (OS) roadmap which will culminate with Mac OS X (ten) in the fall of 1999. In the meantime, Mac users will see a major upgrade to Mac OS 8 and the first customer release of Rhapsody, an operating system for servers, before the end of this year.

Last year, Apple's chief Steve Jobs unveiled the firm's simplified hardware strategy -- the software strategy for the next eighteen months came today.

Apple spokesperson Russell Brady said, "With a solidified hardware and software strategy in place, we are giving developers what they
want to feel confident in Apple's future."

According to Apple, the new operating system upgrade, Mac OS 8.5, will provide users with greater Internet integration and new find and
browsing capabilities. Other enhancements include easier Internet set-up, fast file transfer optimized for Fast Ethernet and a full PowerPC
implementation of AppleScript. Mac OS 8.5 represents operating system developments previously code-named Allegro. Precise shipping
dates were not announced, but the upgrade will ship some time this year.

The server OS, Rhapsody, had been rumored to be a server and workstation client OS. Today, Apple did not rule out a client version, but instead emphasized Rhapsody as a server OS for desktop publishing and Internet servers.

Rhapsody and Mac OS 8 are being designed with technologies which will transition to Mac OS X. At this time, it appears Mac OS will
skip the number "9" and go to the roman numeral ten. "We have not decided, but there could be upgrades such as a Mac OS 8.6 or
something, but our direction is to move to Mac OS X," said Brady.

Calling Mac OS X "our next volume OS," Brady said Mac OS X will be based on a subset of the Macintosh application programming
interfaces (APIs) that developers have been using for years to create Macintosh applications. This means almost all current Mac
applications will run on Mac OS X. New features include protected memory, advanced virtual memory and preemptive multitasking.

Apple claims developers who want to take advantage of Mac OS X will be able to easily "tune-up" their applications with a "few weeks of
work." Brady said he expects the price for Mac OS to be in line with the current pricing of Mac OS 8.
