Qualcomm had a CDMA/analog phone in the market last year, but it fizzled due to a very high price and quality problems.

Really? All IS95 phones at 800mhz are CDMA/AMPS including the Nokia 2180, Qcom QCP800 and QCP820. The QCP2700 is the first phone to switch between PCS CDMA and AMPS.

The PCS Q-phone doesn't appear to have met Qcom's expectations. Looking at the infancy of Sprint's network, that is understandable. But, that is as close to "fizzled" as they have come.

Granted, Qcom got stung by the keyboard button problems on the QCP820 and the plastic case on the Q-phone. Despite that, it is easy to notice that the QCP800, QCP820, and the Samsung PCS phones are very popular around here.

If AT&T forces us to buy a new phone anyway, it doesn't appear that Nokia's "hybrid" stands a chance of saving AT&T's competitive position. www3.techstocks.com
