Paul,

Don't you just hate reading a book after seeing the movie? Or seeing the movie after
reading the book?

I can think of only one or two exceptions, such as The English Patient.

Generally true. A notable exception for me was Joyce's The Dead one of the stories in Dubliners. Huston's film version, with daughter Angelica (with a perfect Irish accent) was very close to the written version. Like the story, boring as hell and plotless until the last part where the powerful emotion and imagery begin. I thought Joyce's words were powerful as they stood until I saw the artistry of the film, with the images of snow blowing over the gravestones superimposed on Gabriel's speech. Worth a look.
