Beware! I just came across the same problem that Hardline had a few days back. I put in an order to sell 600 shares of a stock and was alerted that I was 400 shares OVERCOMMITTED. I didn't want to send it through until I spoke with a rep. After getting in touch with Etrade the rep informed me that I did have 600 shares and they have a glich in their system - meanwhile I lost 10 minutes between my first attempt and when I actually put the trade through. I asked him if they could waive the commission fee and he refused. Oh well - just wanted to alert everyone regarding this. If you get an overcommitted message check your portfolio and see how many shares they have you listed for there.

Steve,

You misunderstood my post. The whole post was a joke. I should have appended a few more smiley faces. I'm a very satisfied E*TRADE customer, too. My point to Hardline (?) was that people only complain when they lost money and that they do not complain when they gained some money (due to a minor E*TRADE problem). I totally agree with everything you said.

I agree with you totally. All these people that are having problems probably don't realize that all on-line brokerages are having problems and that E-Trade has the fastest service of any of them. But there are problems that just can't be fixed by E-Trade. For instance, Internet bandwidth.

If you're having problems, use their 800 number. You can make trades that way when peak time overloads their system.

>>EGRP's up-time is excellent and it's much more likely that a network component between your system and the E*Trade site(s) (there are probably 20 or more) is not working properly when there are "E*Trade problems". <<

Ah another ETrash share holder supporting their stock, I love it!
