Congrats to Jeff Hansen

To all interested parties, decided to do a little preemptive research on the country of Taiwan.

The governing body for all internet related activities is Taiwan Network Information Center or TWNIC. It was founded in March 1994 by Computer Center and The Ministry of Education. TWNIC members are non-profit societies, ISP's, commercial companies, universities and research organizations. There are currently 47 members.

TWNIC is administered under a steering committee of 19 commissars elected from the 47 members. Under the steering committee there are 6 subcommittees, Registration,Service,Promotion,CIX,Technology and Secretarial.

1) There are 3 major ISP's that share the responsibility of monitoring the Internet in Taiwan. They are HiNet, SEEDNET and TANET. Of these Tanet provides the major ATM backbone(http://www.twnic.net/english/reports/taiwan/sld003.htm) for all of Taiwan. Seednet, I believe is networked to Korea and the US(http://www.twnic.net/english/reports/taiwan/sld004.htm), with HiNet providing a majority on the inter-country networking(http://www.twnic.net/english/reports/taiwan/sld002.htm)

2) The current problems Taiwans internet community are lack of IP space, network security and bandwidth constraints.

This is preliminary research that I will expand upon as we go.

Hope this helpful as we go where no man has gone before,

Regards John
