Your explanation for the present situation affecting AMAT and all semi-equips is IMO right on target. Proving that markets and valuations are subject to psychological and economic factors on a global scale. A faucet of the new economy. As I visit the engineering departments of these equipment companies attempting to get our products designed into their machines, I see firsthand what is happening. Layoffs, push-outs, order entry drop offs but still see employment levels high with continuing funding for engineering and development in anticipation of the next growth cycle. Yet some posts and articles portray that the worst is yet to come with the full affects not having been realized. Factor in the recent upgrades and the head really gets spinning. If the market values are based upon future expectations then perhaps we have reached a bottom. The bad news doesn't tank the stocks as previously. In all of this headache, one thing is dependable, the use of semiconductors will continue to become an increasing part of everyday life throughout the world. The wild ride continues.
