<<MELBOURNE, Fla.--Harris Corp.'s semiconductor unit and Sun
Microsystems Inc. today said they were joining forces to create advanced
wireless networking technology that is capable of transmitting Internet video
five times faster than is possible with today's wireless local area networks.

The research project -- called "Mobile Information Infrastructure" -- is
getting funding from the National Institute of Standards and Technology's
Advanced Technology Program. Harris Semiconductor and Sun said they
plan to demonstrate a system based on the latest Integrated Services
Architecture (ISM) techniques and ISA video on an advanced portable
video terminal. >>

<<Harris plans to focus on creating a wireless data link that achieves an 11
megabit/second data rate
by use of Direct Sequence Spread Spectrum
(DSSS) technology and a radio signal modulation technique known as
M-ary Orthogonal Keying (MOK). Harris' Prism product family uses
DSSS. The Melbourne company has extensive background in using DSSS
while developing secret and highly-advanced radio systems for military and
government use. >>
