Duke you answered your own question... they are sometimes unavailable and slow.... Webbroker is the pokiest slowest software Ive ever had to navigate...

A BIG blunder is that they will not let you place limit orders that are more than 20% away from YESTERDAYS CLOSE!!! So, if a stock jumps more than 20% from yesterdays last trade, by the time you place your order, you re frozen out unless you want to chance a market order....

Then arbitrarily, some orders are "pending" till reviewed by a human... sure... that makes getting into any sort of quick play impossible..
Now, surely, none of this matters if you are not doing momentum plays, but I want my trades placed reliably and quickly. All online brokers allow you to talk with a broker at online prices if the software is down..

I am moving to Etrade, and putting some $$ in Webstreet so I can use their Mac based Level II

There is a good article in Time Magazine May 11 issue regarding Online trading. I was a Broker myself for 9 years and feel Online trading is not only here to stay and will flourish.

I dropped Sewagehouse last week.......they are not dependable to risk your money with.

They will give excuse after excuse if you call them on something.

Found many MKT orders filled at prices that NEVER hit the charts. Called them and they reversed every one to a lower price.

Once was accused of "painting the tape" when I put in several MKT orders on the same stock to avoid the extra penny per share. They were all BUYS at market.

Confirmed stock as margin when it wasn't. TPRO/TAVA

These guys shouldn't be allowed to wrap change.

Filed NASD complaint 10 minutes after I closed the account.

Do not use price as your yardstick.
