I have been looking at Imation since I saw the SmartMoney article. I'm not an owner yet, but probably will be soon.
I happened to visit an orthapedic doctor last week and asked him if he knew anything about the DryView system. He said no, but would be interested as he doesn't like the wet chemicals associated with X-rays... toxic etc. I sent him a copy of the SmartMoney article and he called over to the local hospital. He found out that there is a DryView system there; surprised me since this is a town of 6500 out in the Maine woods. Anyways the radiologist there told him that it is a significant advance.
I noticed in a posting regarding earnings in October it was stated that there were over 3000 DryView systems sold. The last quarter earnings announcement stated that there were over 4000 systems sold. And also that for the first time the sales of film exceeded the sales of the units. I don't know what would be special about the film if these systems are outputting through a laser printer, except perhaps for a need to be transparent and oversize. Anyhow, the ability to generate repeat business after the initial unit sale has to be good.

I appreciate everyone's past comments on the thread.

Dana

Imation SuperDisk Drive Receives 1998 Win100 Award From Windows Magazine

OAKDALE, Minn.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--June 2, 1998--
Annual Awards Recognize Year's Best Hardware and Software Computing Products

Imation Corp. (NYSE: IMN) announced today that the Imation SuperDisk Parallel Port Drive has been awarded a 1998 Win100 Award by CMP's Windows Magazine in the category of removable-media drives. The product was recognized for its impressive performance and compatibility with 120 MB SuperDisk diskettes, 1.44 MB diskettes and 720 KB diskettes.

"The Windows Magazine editorial team is a group of hard-core PC product review specialists," said Mike Elgan, editor, Windows Magazine. "Over the past year, we've looked at some truly great products--and quite a few not-so-great ones. The accelerated pace of product development has lured some vendors into a rush-to-market mindset. The result is often hardware or software that's simply not ready for prime time. That's why our 1998 Win100 issue is so important. All the products profiled in our annual issue meet our rigorously high standards of excellence."

Windows Magazine's annual Win100 Awards, featured in a special issue on newsstands next week, are among the most prestigious awards in the industry because they recognize the absolute best 100 hardware and 100 software products out of the thousands that ship each year, Windows officials said. According to Windows, all awards are based on the publication's "grueling, unforgiving, real-world testing process."

"Now offered as a standard or optional component by more than 40 computer makers for new notebook and desktop PCs, SuperDisk technology has now become what it was designed to be -- the leading replacement for the 1.44 MB floppy drive in new PCs," said Ray Meifert, SuperDisk business director, Imation Corp. "The SuperDisk Parallel Port Drive, an external SuperDisk drive that works with almost any PC, gives users another option for adopting SuperDisk technology quickly and affordably. In an industry where quality, performance and innovation are so highly prized, it's rewarding to see that the Imation SuperDisk Drive emerged from Windows' rigorous Win100 testing with such impressive results."

Designed as the replacement for the 1.44 MB floppy drive, SuperDisk technology is the only available high-capacity diskette technology that also works with 1.44 MB and 720 KB diskettes - of which there are billions in the world today. Imation, a co-developer of the technology, markets the Imation SuperDisk Parallel Port Drive and the Imation SuperDisk Diskette. The Imation SuperDisk Parallel Port Drive is widely available via computer stores and catalogs at a manufacturer's suggested retail price of $149.99 (actual pricing may vary), and purchasers may redeem a $50 rebate from Imation (one per household).
