FWIW,

The design and layout of PNLK was a definite issue when I decided to jump in a few weeks back.

I have been in Internet web design since early 1995, and have learned what to look for in terms of professionalism. These folks have it.

The look is clean. There is just enough information to steer you towards your objectives. The interface is intuitive. There aren't fancy, distracting animations.

Simple. To the point. Good choice of colors. Subtle background on entry pages. Clean buttons. Excellent use of javascript roll-over buttons.

If this is their first attempt, it is a great start. Considering that it will probably only get better from here, I am duly impressed.

Mayor

ztect,

There is a wealth of information in print and on the internet on the do's and don'ts of web site design. BTW, my research was done about a year and a half ago, six months before we implemented the site.

IMO, a well thought out site allows users to enter the site, always know where they are, get the information they require, and exit with a minimum of distractions.

Many companies allow the webmaster (y'know, the guy in MIS with the pony tail) to go overboard with graphics, making the pages too busy with unneeded distractions. My favorite web sites keep things simple, and change the overall look of the site maybe once a year. This is what I mean by a clean site.

Developing content for a web site carries the same responsibility as developing printed product or service literature although the delivery technique of the information is quite different. The critical issue is that a message is being conveyed, and an image is being projected to potential customers. Many companies struggle with what that message should be. PNLK does not seem to have a problem in this area

As many in the marketing community know, first impressions are lasting ones.....

Send me a private message if you would like me to send you links to good sites and "not so good" sites.

Regards,

Jim
