djane,

I thought Jim Cramer was a little smarter than that. I have been through this speech before so I won't do it again, 3Com may be #2 in networking but it is in sales totals only. They are nothing more than a low to mid-range commodity network distributor. This can work if you have your act together (Like Dell as done with computer sales). There is nothing innovative in the 3Com camp other then the PalmPilot which US Robotics brought with them.

All of the analysts have assumed that since 3Com is #2 in networking sales that they will magically appear somewhere just behind Cisco in earnings. That won't happen! Cisco still has their act together (As much as that p***** me off!). Cisco has high-margin high end products. 3Com has mid to low-end margin with mid to low margin products. So if their sales take a hiccup their earnings cave in.

If I had to rate the networking field by quality of product I would probably go like this: Cisco, Ascend, Cabletron, Xylan, Bay, and then 3Com. Obviously I realize that not all of the companies have complete product lines but it does still provide some form of comparison basis.

IMHO,

Steve
